My Dad has always been quoting this movie my whole life so we finally watched it. I was not disappointed at all. There were many things I really liked about the movie.
I basically love how they did the story. It was funny throughout but it kept introducing new struggles. With each problem that came in it seemed like the best possible result came from it. Of course until Julia Roberts character passed. But I think because they kept showing all the good things happening in her life it made her passing hurt even more. I thought the character of Ouiser was played perfectly. She was so funny and grumpy. She still seemed like a real person though. I feel like normally the typical grumpy character never shows any emotion other than just grumpiness. But at the funeral she reacted the exact way I feel that character would act. I feel like this movie did a realistic job of showing what life was like in the South. And almost just what life is like in general. It's pretty impressive how much they can tell a story by just ladies gossiping and talking in a salon. They captured the life of a small town perfectly. The way how everyone knew everyone. It almost felt just like a huge family. Everyone still had there story though. Annelle at first didn't fit in too well. But as time passed she blended into the small town's family like everyone else. I don't have too much to say about it but I loved Dolly Parton in the movie. She was just perfect. She treated everyone greatly and even though her life wasn't perfect she never complained and was always there for everyone else. In conclusion I really liked this movie. I think there was just this really genuine quality about it that I really loved about it.

This was a movie my dad liked when he was a kid so me and him watched it. It has the same actor who played mouth Goonies, which is one of my favorite movies of all time.
I actually found this movie really similar to Goonies. Just in some of the characters. I mean Teddy and Mouth are basically the same character. The same goes for Vern and Chunk. Ace and his gang were kind of like the Fratelli's. Although there are these similarities I really liked it. Even though it was set in the 60's I still related to it a lot. They talked how me and my friends did then. They acted like how we did too. I think the whole adventure is pretty cool too. They did a great job by showing how they bonded on this trip too. It wasn't cheesy. I feel like movies where bonding is kind of a big part of the movie get cheesy very easily. I thought it happened very naturally. I like the story that Gordie gave was a cool way to kind of show who he was. Because before to me he seemed kind of like a sad kid who wasn't really good at anything. I know it was based on a book but I'm not a huge fan of the ending. I wish the boys would have stayed friends forever. I know that is cheesy itself. It's also probably more unrealistic. But I just watched two hours of them becoming friends I kind of wish they would have stayed friends. While the way the did split made sense. I did like how it turned out to be him writing a book though that was good. This movie was very good and I liked it a lot. It just a nice almost nostalgic in a way, which might make no sense because I obviously didn't live in the 60's but in the way it reminded me of when I was their age. I completely hated this movie. I saw this in theatres but didn't really remember anything about. So it felt like watching a new movie. And my gosh it was horrendous. There was so much wrong with this movie I don't even know how much I will be able to write on this.
I hate that there is just a huge fleet of star destroyers I find that super dumb and kind of just makes the movies before seem dumb. The rebel fleet popping out of nowhere I also find dumb. I just hate Kylo and Rey's relationship, it's horrible. The fact that she kills him and heals him is so dumb. I hate that because of the force they can now just basically teleport too. Like they compared to other jedi's aren't even close to as powerful but they have way better powers. That's dumb. I thought Leia's death was just pointless. Plus luke was able to do a whole lot before he died she died super quick. This isn't really a big deal, but I hate how in this trilogy they keep bringing in different cute animals because they just want to sell stuffed animals. Like they're doesn't need to be 50 different species of cute animals. Rey and Kylo's kiss was dumb. I feel like they had no romantic chemistry the whole time. I don't like how they killed off chewie to just say no he was actually on a different ship. It was a pointless plot twist. And for them to do it to such a beloved character just makes it more dumb. They made a big deal about having to wipe C3PO's memory, then just very easily gave it back to him. They made Poe the exact same character as Han Solo with his back story. Throughout this trilogy they just kept making references to the original trilogy. It felt like they were copying it and pasting with different characters. Like Palpatine shows Rey the rebel fleet losing, but then they win just like in the third star wars movie. Hux being the spy I thought was dumb. They kept making dumb plot twists to some how make this recycled plot better but it just did not work and made it way worse. There is so much more I hate but I am going to stop there. I don't normally rate movies but this was a 1/10. It's just awful. This week I watched the social network. I walked away very happy with this movie I enjoyed it a lot. The story of the founding of Facebook is one I didn't really know at all so I found the story very interesting. I very much liked how it went back and forth from the lawsuit and Mark's memories. I like movies that do this.
I would say my favorite thing about the movie though, is that Mark Zuckerberg is borderline the antagonist. They even start the movie with him getting broken up with because he is a jerk. Then it shows him writing about the girl on his blog and he says some pretty bad comments about women. The protagonist I would say is Eduardo. He tries his best to help Mark and Facebook's success. He does a lot for Mark but is always treated poorly. Then Mark screws him aver and basically tricks him into losing all of his shares in the company because Eduardo froze a bank account because mark was going insane. Going into the movie I was just expecting it to be a kind of boring story of how Mark founded Facebook. But them making him a sucky person, which I guess he is in real life, makes the movie a whole lot better to me. Although to me I wouldn't say he is totally unlikeable. While he is a jerk and to me also the antagonist, the brilliance of his mind and ideas almost makes him like a lot less crazy scientist kind of character. Like he is horrible but you can respect his genius. I think this makes the character of Mark a lot more compelling. To him Facebook is his baby and he is gonna do everything to make his company, as he said many times, "cool". Even if it is screwing his best friend over Mark will make sure his creation is extremely successful and cool. The Character of Eduardo is another one of my favorite things about the movie. He starts out just as Mark's friend but he becomes the CFO of Facebook. He is extremely loyal to Mark even though he is treated like crap. When Eduardo realizes Mark screwed and he goes and breaks his computer and tells him he's done, I think is the best scene in the movie. All the tension that had been boiling up inside of him finally came out in such a big display of emotion. It is such a strong scene and really puts and exclamation point on the movie in my opinion. I think the director David Fincher does a great job of explaining why Mark is Mark in this movie and I think that is why it is so good. While the movie is just a pretty cool historical movie really, the character development in it I think makes it very good. I'm gonna start by saying I absolutely loved this movie. This movie was so good down to every last detail. I feel the acting was impeccable. In my opinion no matter how good a movie is there will normally be an actor who will just have a poor performance, but I feel like this movie is acted out perfectly. I'm so used to seeing Chris Hemsworth as Thor that seeing him as a cocky driver kind of fit in for me. So I kind of imagined Thor as a formula 1 driver.
I really liked how they developed the relationships between Hunt and Lauda in the movie. I like how it starts out as them both telling their own stories leading up to where they are now. It made both character feel like equally the main character. I feel director Ron Howard does a great job of splitting both of their screen times making not one driver feel more important that the other. I liked how it showed how they've known each other for while and the rivalry is deep. I liked how well their two personalities contrasted. I think that's done very well. The airport scene towards the end of the movie was done very well. It showed how much respect they had for each other while still hating and being jealous of the other. The narration by Lauda at the end did another good job of showing their relationship and I think was a very good addition. Also when Hunt beat up the reporter who asked the very rude question to Lauda about his wife, I loved that because it showed the respect he had for Lauda. I assume all the racing in this movie was real because all of the racing scenes were done great. It really felt like I was actually watching a TV broadcast of the races. I feel like they left in every detail of a race in, in all the scenes. I think all the accidents small and big were done very good. Every time Hunt's car would burn out and he would watch Lauda finish really help keep the feeling of their intense rivalry. All the hospital scenes from Lauda's big accident were done great as well. I loved how they showed him watching the races of Hunt winning. Overall I loved this movie. I don't normally rate movies in my reviews but this movie was a 10. So I finally sat down and watched Shang-Chi. I've heard nothing but great reviews for this movie. All I have heard is people really love this movie. So maybe my expectations were just set a little too high. I liked the movie. I didn't think it was great though. I liked the story line although I feel like I have watched movies with pretty similar storylines. I guess what I'm saying is the plot didn't seem like totally original to me. I guessed pretty much the whole movie very quickly. I also just felt like the acting just wasn't the best. For example towards the end of the movie when Shang-Chi says to his father, "I'm not afraid of you" and his father responds with, "Yes you are" the acting in the scene I just feel was awful and cringe.
I also wasn't a big fan of the Katy character. Not really because I didn't like the idea of him having a best friend but I just feel like she didn't fit in the movie the best. I mean if who you thought was your bestfriend for ten years just all of sudden turned out to be a trained asassain I feel like you would be angry and not want to travel far with him to find his sister who also is a trained asassain, but that's just me. Also her shooting the dragon in the throat at the end is just so dumb and I predicted her doing something with the bow the second they handed her one. I just feel she as a comedic relief would have been good, but she should not have been included in the fight scenes. The one where they were at the fight club and she was at that fight scene, that was fine because she wasn't like supposed to be fighting. But when she suits up after using a bow for one day, and practically saves the day, that's just dumb. Also throughout the movie they show she can't speak Chinese but her grandma speaks it so that just doesn't make sense to me. I liked the visuals a lot though. I thought the movie was very pretty and I think they did a good job of making the Asian culture appreciated and celebrated. I think the movie was easy to follow. I liked the addition of the random actor guy. Who is the bad guy in The Prince of Persia which is a movie I love. It was cool to see him in kind of the dumb person comedy role. Him and Morris are maybe my favorite part of this movie. The director did a good job of mixing in their comedy its with the serious storyline which reminded me of how Shakespeare would do similar things in his comedies. I didn't like some of the CGI, I just thought some things just didn't look the greatest for example the little dragons but it was fine. I liked the relationship between Shang-Chi and his father. I think that part was for the most part well acted. I think it was done well how we continuously learned more about why their relationship is like it is throughout the whole movie. I also kind-of like how the father wasn't really a true-true bad guy. I believe there was good in him. Although yes he was a bad guy, I mean he was power hungry, but that was lost when he found his wife. Then he was good and I think a part of just wanted that good back. That's why when he thought he could maybe get her back he did everything in his power to get her back. Once he realized she wasn't behind the gate he saved his son from having his soul sucked. So there was good in him which I liked instead of just a horrible very obvious villain. I overall did like this movie. I think it was good. I thought there was bad acting at several points and I just don't think the Katy character was done the best. I do think there was a lot of good stuff in the movie but I don't think it's like an amazing movie like I've heard. To me it's just good. I very much liked this movie although when thinking about what to write I noticed critically I didn't like it that much. When just casually watching it I found it very funny and liked all of the action, escape, and heist scenes. When thinking about the movie in depth though there are quite a few problems.
For example when they go to Argentina they take a train, but they were in Europe. Also Booth has his father watch that he repaired but it never shows them going back home to get it because he was in Jail there was no way he had it with him. Also when they are in Argentina they didn't bring guns. Considering the cops were after them and they should have assumed the Bishop would come too, you think you would bring guns, but that's just me. I like plot twists. This movie has a pretty big one. Being that Hartley was with the Bishop the whole time. I just don't know if I like this one. I got attached to the bond between criminal and cop and then they kind of just kill that whole relationship they built all throughout the movie. Also with this plot twist it makes the whole bit of the Bishop going in and putting money in a bank account and intercepting the phone call. If he was a thief there was just no point in all of that. I get it was done to make the plot twist even bigger but I didn't like it. To me the perfect ending would have been Hartley and Booth delivering all three eggs to the Egyptian guy and collecting their money and planning a new heist. I do kind of like that the three of them will work on a new heist together but I would of liked to have seen Booth and Hartley needing the Bishop for the next heist than Booth needing Hartley and the Bishop. Aside from plot things I would have liked to seen done differently I still did really like this movie. Ryan Reynolds is hilarious all throughout the movie and The Rock does a great job as the straight man like he does often with Kevin Heart. The escape scenes and heist scenes are very good. They mix comedy and action very well and I really like them. I thought this movie was really pretty as well. Normally in comedies they don't focus too much on beautiful shots but with all the change in country it was really cool how they shot all the scenes in all the various locations and I think they all look very good. I did like this movie a lot. More because of the comedy than the plot. I liked the plot but had my problems, even though I still enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a laugh. This is one of the comedies I have always heard about and been told to watch. It was added to Netflix so I finally did. I did not walk away disappointed from the movie, I really enjoyed it.
I have always really liked buddy cop movies so I assumed I was gonna like the movie. I also love Jonah Hill as an actor so I had pretty high expectations. It melt all of them. I just really thought the movie very funny. It was kind of that potty humor which really just makes me laugh a lot. The movie was kind of a parody movie I think. It made fun of stereotypes in other movies. For example one of the characters said, "We have completely run out of ideas", making the weird task force they are apart of seem like its making fun of movies with similar ideas. I think it was directed pretty well. The movie was more focused on making you laugh than really cool cuts and visuals, which is expected in a comedy. Overall I just thought it was very funny and I've always been told this and it met my expectations which were pretty high. I watched the Cruella movie for the first time this week. I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't like insane to me, it was just good I don't really know why though. I definitely thought it was a well made film I'm just not sure why I feel kind of "eh" about it.
I thought the overall plot was pretty good and all meshed with the original movie. I liked how she had different people working for her and how they helped her. I thought it was cool how she like turned into her real mom when she was Cruella. But I feel like this change just comes out of no where. The sudden change kind of bugs me and I feel there is no real explanation for why it's that dramatic. Maybe that's what kind of holds me back from really liking the movie. Like they clarify that she is her own person and rebellious at the beginning and show how she is a thief and does illegal stuff. So at first I think she is a bold rebel kid. Then she show her super nervous and almost desperate for her ideas to be done when she's working with her mom. So then I think she is shy and nervous. Then very suddenly she is cruel, determined and very villain like, which don't me wrong that's who Cruella is but the way they transitions into it, I just don't think is done too well. I think the movie is beautiful though. I really enjoy all the images and scenes that are shown. The dresses that are done and really everything in the mise en scene is great. I love the parties thrown and the scenes in the street. It does a good job of being funny and making jokes at the right time. I think her two minions do a good job and are good comic relief. I love when you find out that her mom is the Baroness and that whole twist in the movie, I think it's done well and I personally didn't see it coming, although I'm not the best at predicting things. Overall it was a good movie. I kind of feel it was good because of the budget. Just because it was a big production really. If the movie wasn't as pretty and extravagant I would not like it as much. The whole Estella and Cruella personality switches though, I'm just not a fan. I wanted to watch another DiCaprio movie so I saw this on Netflix and decided to watch it. I ended up very pleased. It also has Tom Hanks which is just another huge bonus. The fact that the whole movie is based on a true story too is just crazy to me. I really thought all the acting was done very well and it was directed very well.
I loved the beginning when he pretended to be the substitute teacher for his class I found that hilarious. I also thought it was funny how he pretended to be basically every career possible. The costumes were great for these careers as well. I also loved when he worked in the hospital. Many times in the movie while I feel it's not trying to be funny I just find it hilarious. When he was with the nurse as well I loved that. Tom Hanks I feel does a great job which really isn't a surprise. His acting like always is very impressive and his performance just really adds to how good the movie is. He plays the desperate cop trying to get the criminal very well. I really loved the first few interactions DiCaprio has with Hanks as well. I think their acting is funny and great. I feel I sound repetitive but they are my too favorite actors so how could I not be a fan. Overall I think the movie was great and I really enjoyed it. |
